How to Adopt

adoption and how to go about doing this.
Once you have at least some idea, make an
appointment with us and we shall work with you.
Every child must have some decent family to be with, if not
with their biological family, then with the adoptive family.
If the biological family is not able, for whatever reasons, to
maintain and provide love and a decent life for the child,
then it would be better for the child to be living with another
family who is able and wanting to shower love and give the
best they can give.
Instead of deciding to abort your pregnancy, why not live
with it and let us find a loving family for your child. We do
not condone to any abortion as we believe ‘an egg’ is still –
a child – at the end of the rainbow!!
Once you are pregnant, the life is not one but two – yours
and your baby. If reasons bring you to give up the child
then it must be for the welfare of the child. Everything
you think, feel, do and decide must be for the child.
Life is precious. You only have but one chance
– do it for this baby -
Decide properly.

Singaporean and Permanent Resident adopters
who wish
to adopt a foreign child will need to
apply for a Home Study
Report.
Permanent Residents will require permission
from their
Embassy in order to adopt from a country of their choice
and a Certificate/Letter of Eligibility must be obtained
before the start of
the HSR. This is a requirement by our
Ministry of Community Development Youth and Sports
(MCYS) located at 512 Thomson Road Singapore 298136.
Yes, this is good news to single woman who wish to
adopt.
Singapore Government has allowed such an
adoption, but
it will be a case-to-case basis.
As far as I see, single ladies
must be financially
independent and would be better to have
stayed with family or at least near to families to assist in the
caring of the child whilst you are away at work.
As for single father, we are not strong in this area and have
not encountered any adoptions.
Your case will be checked by
MCYS before you can adopt.
Personally, we do not have any
experience in this area.
Yes, you are also able to adopt even if you
have more than
one biological child.
Again, you will need to apply through
MCYS.
But we have not encountered any problem
in this
case.
At this stage we are not able to cater for same gender parents. Your case will be reviewed by MCYS.
Adopters do not need to go through the Home Study Report. Singaporeans and Permanent Residents may adopt through this process.
Adopters need to apply for the HSR for approval. Once the in-principle letter is given, then you are on your way to become new parents or ‘renewed’ parents. Both are great and exciting! Adoption in Singapore is very easy. Most foreigners come to reside here just to adopt.
We also cater to foreigners who are not residing in Singapore to adopt through us. They are not allowed to adopt a Singapore child however, we can assist to identify a foreign child for them, and work with them. In this area, they are to apply for Home Study Report in their own country, provided they get their clearance from the Embassy as to the country they wish to adopt.
We care for mothers who wish to surrender their born or
unborn child. To ensure the mothers, details given will be
deem as confidential.
The mothers who wish to surrender their child will need to
fill in all the necessary details.
Mothers who are still awaiting birth of child can state the
desire to give up their child, although nothing will be signed
until the baby is born. Details of the biological family must
be given and stated as truth as possible, especially when it comes to the race of the father, health issues of family, such
as mental illness must be stated. Sometimes, it is impossible
to know the father when there are several sexual relations
with different men.
Young, underage and unwed mother who wish to surrender
their infants to us, may go to the Kandang Kerbau Women
and Children Hospital for counseling before surrendering
the child to us. Alternatively, they can surrender directly
to us and we shall advise them accordingly. However,
the KK Hospital will still have to lodge a police case.
The parents of the underage mothers will need to be advised
and made known of the pregnancy. We wish to advise
parents to be extra supportive and understanding of this
situation, as the simple phrase is “What is done cannot be
undone”, therefore instead of making the situation worse,
should try to understand the emotional aspect of the young
mother.
Pregnant mothers who are below 16 years of age will
be considered as Statutory Rape, (consent or otherwise)
therefore a police report will have to be made by the social
worker of the hospital. If the father of the child is known,
then he will be issued some kind of sentence. If the father of
the child is below 16 years of age, then the sentence will be
less severe, than those of 21 years of age and above.
However, if the mother cannot identify the father of
the child, then police will still undergo some kind of
investigations. The police are very sympathetic people, they
are here to help not to judge or make more problems for
you. We will assist you as much as we possibly can – so
don’t worry.
